The guy is hitting almost .500, is close to college baseball's triple crown, and played all 9 positions in a game. Yet everywhere I saw where people thought that the Tampa Bay Rays shouldn't take Buster with the first pick in the draft even though the Rays need a catcher. And then the Rays indeed did not take him. Personally, I would have taken Buster. Great-hitting catchers like him are hard to come by. Buster might be similar to Brian McCann of the Atlanta Braves- or he might even end up the next Johnny Bench!

I can understand why the Rays took Beckham. I think Beckham will be the next Hanley Ramirez.

Drafting is an inexact science for sure..you never know how anyone is truly going to turn out in pro baseball. Buster could be the next Corky Miller as opposed to Brian McCann!

I guess my point was, that everyone has their opinion...and it's not always the stats that scouts look at. Something clicks and they say, "hey, I like that guy" or they think about how the player may project down the road...
and of course, if you are a sibling, or child (family member) who has someone who plays/played in the MLB; you could be a shoe in...(seen that)

The Giants are happy he was still available. He now is at High A San Jose and playing in the Cal League Playoffs. He is doing well in his limited time as a pro and is expected (by fans mostly) to be on the Big Giants at the end of the playoffs.
